LANCASTER, PA - Richie Gebauer (Sr., South Plainfield, NJ/South Plainfield) and Mike Parziale (Jr., Woburn, MA/Woburn) went 3-0 to lead the Franklin & Marshall wrestling team to wins over Wagner (36-17 W) and Delaware State (31-11 W) and a loss to Rutgers (38-6 L) in a quadrangular dual meet at the Mayser Center.
Against Wagner, 125 lbs. Trent Dixon (So., Baltimore, MD/Eastern Tech) pinned Joe Eurell in 1:43 to bring up Gebauer at 133 as the senior pinned Adam Amster in 1:43. Following a technical fall and a decision by Wagner, 157 lbs. Parziale earned a 26-11 technical fall in 6:51 over Freddy Pontoriero before Matt Veres (Jr., Phillipsburg, NJ/Blair Academy) won by forfeit at 165 lbs. Wagner picked up a win by fall at 174 lbs., but Matt Goggin (Fr., Ithaca, NY/Ithaca) and Glenn Martin (Fr., Winston-Salem, NC/Parkland) recorded forfeit victories at 184 and 197 lbs., respectively, to seal the match before Wagner picked up a decision at heavyweight for the 36-17 final.
Versus Delaware State, Dixon notched a 12-7 decision at 125 lbs and Gebauer won 20-3 for a technical fall in 4:30 before the Hornets picked up a major decision at 141 and a decision at 149 lbs. to pull within striking distance of the Diplomats. However, Parziale won by technical fall (22-7, 6:11) before Veres pinned Greg Davis in 2:08. Delaware State answered with a major decision at 174 lbs., but Chris Richey (Fr., Setauket, NY/Ward Melville) won by forfeit at 184 and Martin knocked off Dave Mears 4-3 at 197 lbs. to ice the victory.
The Diplomats toughest match of the day occurred against Rutgers as the Scarlett Knights used decisions at 125, 165 and heavyweight, pin falls at 141, 149 and 174 and a technical fall at 197 lbs. to upend Franklin & Marshall 38-6.
F&M's victories against Rutgers came at 133 and 157 as Gebauer won 6-2 over Ryan Jablonski and Parziale was a 5-3 victor over Gene Zannetti.
Ranked #19 in the nation at 157 lbs., Parziale's three victories raise his season record to 17-4 on the year as improve his career mark to 64-22 to surpass Craig Blackman '81 (63-10-1) for ninth place in career victories at Franklin & Marshall College.
Franklin & Marshall (2-3) will continue the season on January 11 at James Madison University. Match time is set for 7:00 p.m.
