PRINCETON, NJ - Franklin & Marshall College's Mike Parziale (Jr., Woburn, MA/Woburn) defeated Jesse Palermo 21-6 for a technical fall at the 6:37 mark to raise his record to 30-5 and become the third wrestler in school history to record a 30 win season as the Diplomats fell at Princeton 40-8.
Tied for the Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association lead in technical falls with five this season, Parziale dominated Palermo to join Brendan James '98 (36-8 in 1998 & 31-11 in 1996) and Brian "Nip" Brown '80 (30-3 in 1979) as the only F&M grapplers to record 30 or victories in a season.
Historically, Parziale now holds the fourth, 13th and 21st best single season win totals in F&M wrestling history as he finished 22-8 as a sophomore and registered a 25-10 mark in 2003 to establish a record for the most wins by a freshman in Diplomats' history.
Further, he improved his career record to 77-23 record as he ranks fifth in career victories.
Rich Gebauer (Sr., South Plainfield, NJ/South Plainfield) added three points against Princeton at 133 lbs. as he handled Greg Redman 6-1.
The loss drops Franklin & Marshall to 15-25-1 all-time against the Tigers (5-7).
Franklin & Marshall (3-14) will return to the mat on February 18 against American University in the Mayser Center as the Diplomats will look to record the 600th victory in program history. Match time is scheduled for 8:00 p.m.
