Diplomat Matmen Fall to Millersville

Feb. 23, 2007

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. - Millersville went on a six-bout tear Friday evening, handing a 22-18 loss to cross-town rival, Franklin & Marshall. Millersville picked up its third win of the season to improve to 3-11, while the Diplomats dropped their fourth meet in as many to close out the dual slate with a record of 7-8. Millersville is now 12-4 in dual meets with F&M.

Five of the six bouts between 149 and 197 went the distance with Millersville picking up all five of the decisions, including one major. Millersville seized a 13-12 lead, with John Heleniak's (4-7) decision of James Schulz (4-7) at 174. F&M's forfeit of the 184-pound weight class forced Diplomat freshman, Shawn Logue (8-5) into a must-win situation at 197. He fell 4-2 to Steve Funk (5-11), sealing F&M's fate.

Franklin & Marshall came out hot winning each of the first three bouts. Jake Bucha's second technical fall of the season improved his record to 11-4 and gave F&M a 5-0 lead. An 8-2 Austin Reed decision followed by a 16-7 major decision for Al Gianforti (18-7) put Millersville in a 12-point hole, but Cody Becker's (4-5) 6-4 decision of Steven Gregory (0-13) at 149 sparked the Marauders' run on the scoreboard.

Nico Somers won his 19th match of the season via medical forfeit at heavyweight. He enters next weekend's EIWA Championships with a 19-3 record.
