Feb. 3, 2007

PRINCETON, N.J. - Franklin & Marshall's wrestlers used five pins to knock off Princeton 36-14 at Dillon Gym on Princeton's campus Saturday. The victory was the Diplomats first in EIWA competition this season.

Jake Bucha (125), Andrew Smith (157), Justin Herbert (165), and Nico Somers (285) each decked their opponents in the first period. Bucha, who made the shortest work of an opponent on the afternoon, improved to 8-3 with his first pin of the season at 1:01.

Somers, at the other extreme of the weight classes, needed 4:19 to put Kris Berr on his back. His third pin of the season leaves the heavyweight with a 15-3 mark. Smith and Herbert went back-to-back with falls in the middle of the lineup. Smith is now 9-9 following his victory, while Herbert goes to 13-5 with his third pin of the year.

141-pounder Al Ginaforti is now 16-5 after handing Danny Scotton a 10-6 defeat. Austin Reed improved his record to 5-1 with a forfeit at 133, while 197-pounder, Shawn Logue moved to 6-4 with his fifth win in as many bouts.

The teams traded forfeits with Princeton surrendering 133 pounds. The Diplomats gave six back at 184. Eric Marcotulli delivered the Tigers five team points with a second period technical fall of Steven Gregory. Princeton's John Clore handed James Schulz an 11-10 loss at 174.

With the victory, Franklin & Marshall improved to 7-4 (1-3 EIWA). Princeton remains winless at 0-14. F&M returns to the mat next Saturday when the Diplomats travel to Harvard to face the Crimson. The Diplomats will also square off with Brown University.
