LANCASTER, Pa. – Bucknell University's wrestlers
took the first nine bouts to hand Franklin & Marshall a 32-3
loss in Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association (EIWA) action
Tuesday evening. The Bison (2-4, 1-1 EIWA) recorded six decisions,
two majors and a pin for Bucknell's fourth consecutive win
over the Diplomats' (0-3, 0-2 EIWA) grapplers.
Heavyweight Nico Somers' 8-1 decision of Nathan Jones in
the night's final bout was all that saved F&M from being
blanked on the scoreboard. Somers improved to 5-3 on the season.
Bucknell's Jose Matos picked up the only pin of the
evening, knocking off the Diplomats' Matt Murray at the 4:40
mark of the 133-pound bout. The nation's 12th ranked wrestler
at that weight, David Marble, did not wrestle. F&M's
Anthony Bongarzone challenged Andrew Rendos, ranked sixth in the
nation at 165-pounds. The Bison grappler posted an 11-4 win in that
bout.
Despite Bucknell's four-match win streak over F&M, the
Diplomats still lead the overall series 20-11-1.
The Diplomats return to action on Saturday at Rutgers
University. F&M will face Rutgers and Princeton in EIWA action.
