CHESTERTOWN, Md. - Three different players scored in the first
half to give the Franklin & Marshall a 3-0 lead that would not
relinquish to defeat Washington in Centennial Conference (CC)
women's soccer action on Saturday.
Allison Deutsch scored her first collegiate goal, while Michelle
Shea and Shannon Summers also netted a goal on the afternoon to
help the Diplomats (5-2, 1-1 CC) record their first conference win
of the season.
F&M scored all three goals in a span of seven minutes, 40
seconds to build a comfortable lead heading into the second half.
Summers finished a pass from Amy Cawley in the 33rd
minute for the eventual game-winning goal, her first of the year.
Less than two minutes later, Shea made it a two-goal game,
scoring off a direct kick at the 34:01. In the 41st
minute, Deutsch sent a shot right under the crossbar to give the
Diplomats a 3-0 advantage.
Erin Roy was challenged by five shots and only needed to make
three saves for the shutout. Tori Ripple made 10 saves for
the Shorewomen (1-7, 0-2 CC) on 19 shots taken by F&M.
The Diplomats return to action on Wednesday against Gettysburg.
