PHILADELPHIA - Franklin & Marshall freshman Guillherme de
Melo moved to 2-0, but his efforts alone were not enough as #7 Penn
defeated the eleventh ranked Diplomats 8-1 on Wednesday.
Guillherme de Melo swept Dan Greenberg 13-11, 11-4, 11-5 to
remain unblemished at No. 2. His brother, sophomore Gabriel de Melo
(0-2), battled back from a 2-0 hole to force a fifth game, but the
Quakers (2-0) Mark Froot took the deciding set 11-8 to seal the win
in the first position.
After jumping out to a 2-0 lead on Trevor McGuiness, the
Diplomats' No. 3, Juan Lopez, saw his Quaker opponent squeak out
wins in each of the next three games to secure a Penn point.
The Diplomats return to action on Saturday when F&M hosts
another Ivy representative, Yale.
