PRINCETON, N.J. - Princeton won four of the seven bouts
wrestled and benefitted from three Franklin & Marshall forfeits
in a Friday night EIWA fracas. The Diplomats (0-1, 0-1 EIWA)
spotted the Tigers (1-0, 1-0 EIWA) 12 points in the first three
weights and saw Princeton sweep the middleweights in convincing
fashion to secure the win.
The Diplomats' concessions at 125 and 141 served as bookends
around Jake Bucha's 5-2 decision of Zach Bintliff. Controlling the
match from end to end, Bucha improved to 10-3 on the
season. F&M's senior used a pair of takedowns and an
escape to pick up the victory.
Princeton doubled the Diplomats deficit with consecutive pins at
149 and 157. Daniel Kolodzik pinned Eric Norgard in the second
period, followed by Danny Scotton's first period fall over Dave
Pucci. Andy Lowy officially closed the book on F&M with a
technical fall of Matt Gittleman at 165 pounds.
Matt Fullowan (7-5) ended the Tigers' run on the scoreboard,
pinning Travis Erdman with 11 seconds left in the second. The match
had been tight to that point, but Fullowan was able to work in on a
leg to get Erdman on the mat. He worked the advantage to the late
period pin. Dan Canfield (4-5) closed out the Diplomats' night on
an upswing with a 9-4 decision of Bobby Grogan. Canfield cashed in
by countering Grogan's shots and outhustling his opponent.
"The guys were a little down with a depleted lineup," said
Diplomats' coach, Pete Schuyler, "Everyone who went out on the
mat wrestled with great intensity and battled hard. Getting
Anthony Bongarzone back in the lineup will help us out
tomorrow."
The Diplomats return to action tomorrow afternoon at NYU at 5:00
p.m.
