BOSTON - Franklin & Marshall's women's squash team dropped a
5-4 decision to Tufts in the opening round of the College Squash
Association (CSA) Championships. The Diplomats (7-10) are competing
for the Walker Cup, which plays out for the 17th through
24th positions in the final national rankings.
The Jumbos (4-14) took the second through sixth positions to
claim the win. F&M owned the No.1 match with Morgan Smith
surrendering only six points - all in the first game - en route to
the 3-0 win over Victoria Barba. Tanya Arora, Dana Russo and Erin
Jaffee swept the eigth through tenth positions, respectively.
No. 7 Kelsey Tylus fell behind 2-1, but took 18 of the
matches final 21 points for the win.
The Diplomats will face Colby at 4:30 pm on Saturday in the
consolation semis. F&M dropped a regular season meeting with
Colby at the Smith/Holyoke Round Robin. F&M's
number one, Morgan Smith, played her sister, Samantha, to five
games in that match. Courtney Mulligan, Kelsey Tylus, Alek Woods
and Dana Russo posted the Diplomats wins in that match.
The Jumbos will move on to face Vassar in the Walker semifinals
tomorrow morning. You can follow the tournament throughout
