BOSTON -- Columbia University edged out Franklin & Marshall
5-4 in the consolation final of the Walker Cup Division at the
College Squash Association's (CSA) women's team championships on
Sunday. The loss leaves the Diplomats with an 8-11 record and the
22nd ranking in the nation from the true playoff format.
The Diplomats got wins at the second and third position from
Ellie Foster (9-10) and Davinia Buckley (8-11), respectively.
Foster dispatched Olivia Tandon in four games (10-8, 1-9, 9-6,
9-4), while Buckley squeaked by Anne Cheng in each game during her
3-0 sweep (10-8, 9-6, 9-7).
Courtney Mulligan (8-4) delivered a victory in the fifth
position with a 3-1 (8-7, 8-0, 6-9, 9-7) win over Sasha Munn, while
No. 6 Gabby Robinson (6-13) handled her opponent in three (9-4,
9-2, 9-7).
Of the Diplomat losses, two came in five games. F&M's top
player, Morgan Smith (7-2) went up 2-1, but saw Elizabeth Chu take
the final games 9-7 and 10-8. Masha Ooyevaar wore down the
Diplomats Tonya Arora (8-10) at eight. Ooyevaar won in five, 8-10,
10-8, 5-9, 9-7, 9-4.
The loss wraps up team play for F&M. The Diplomats will
compete at the CSA individual championships at Williams at the end
of the month.
