Two Diplomats Survive EIWA Saturday

Brackets Through Saturday

PHILADELPHIA – Two Franklin & Marshall wrestlers will compete on Sunday, the final day of the 105th Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association (EIWA) Championships. 174-pound senior, Justin Herbert, and 197-pound freshman, Colin Ely, will both wrestle in the consolation quarterfinals when action resumes at The Palestra tomorrow.

Herbert went 1-1 in the championship bracket, pinning East Stroudburg's Jeff Jacobs at 1:04. He then ran into Cornell's Steve Anceravage, the 174-pound bracket's two seed. Anceravge bumped Herbert to the consolation bracket. He remained alive with a 14-2 decision of Princeton's Travis Erdman. He will face Bucknell's Shane Riccio in the consolation quarterfinals.

Ely was pinned in 32 seconds by the fifth-seeded Andy Silber (American) in his first bout. He earned a medical forfeit at Joe Kennedy's (Lehigh) expense to move into Sunday's competition.

149-pounder, Al Gianforti went 1-2 on the day. He fell 12-3 to Lehigh's Trevor Chinn before earning a 5-1 decision over Kellen Bradley from Rutgers. Gianforti's season ended with an 11-5 to decision to Penn's Cesar Grajales.

157-pounder, Anthony Bongarzone was pinned in third period of his opening bout by Navy's Matt DeMichel. He remained alive on the strength of a 4-0 decision over Harvard's Bryan Parzano, but fell 8-2 to Columbia's Eren Civan.

The Diplomats are in 12th place amongst the 14 teams competing. The 8.5-team points leaves F&M ahead of Brown and Princeton. Cornell has a 15.5-point lead on Penn in the team championship hunt.
