Diplomats Fall in OT

LANCASTER, Pa. - Washington's Jen Stafford's goal in overtime lifted the Shorewomen to 1-0 victory over Franklin & Marshall Saturday afternoon in Centennial Conference (CC) women's soccer action. The win was the Shorewomen's first-ever victory over the Diplomats as they improve to 5-2-1 (1-1 CC). F&M falls to 2-7 (0-2 CC) on the season.

Ainsley Boynton took the first shot of the overtime for Washington, but the ball bounced off F&M keeper Katie Golding to the foot of Jen Stafford who fired it home for the game winner at 97:23.

The Diplomats came into the game averaging 5.9 shots. Their offense stepped up and played to another level getting off nine shots in the contest while their defense limited Washington to six. The majority of game was played on Washington's side of field, but F&M was unable to connect on its shots.

F&M held a 3-0 advantage in corner kicks.

Golding had two saves taking the loss. She falls to 2-7 on the year. Washington goalie Torri Ripple stopped four shots picking up the win. Ripple improves to 4-2-1.

Franklin & Marshall returns to action September 29th when they travel to Gettysburg.
