LANCASTER, Pa. – #7 Cornell handed #18 Franklin & Marshall's women a 9-0 setback in the season opener for both teams. The Big Red (1-0) won 3-0 in all ten flights against the Diplomats (0-1).
Cornell's Jamie Laird handed Morgan Smith an 11-4, 13-11, 11-8 defeat at No. 1. Katie Barnes gave Alexandra Glassman all she could handle in the first at No. 4 before succumbing 12-10, 11-4, 11-3.
The Cornell win was the seventh in as many meetings between the schools. The Big Red closed the series gap, which currently favors F&M, to 11-7.
F&M returns to action tomorrow afternoon at Princeton.
