Diplomats Break Into Win Column
The Franklin & Marshall women's squash team picked up
its first win and turned it into the season's first winning
streak taking the final three matches of four played on the
weekend. The 18th-ranked Diplomats (3-4) fell 8-1
Friday night at Williams, but rebounded with a pair of 9-0 wins on
Saturday before squeaking out a 5-4 win on Sunday.
The Diplomats swept #26 St. Lawrence and unranked Colgate on
Saturday afternoon at #15 Hamilton. Their hosts posed more of a
problem on Sunday, but F&M came away with the one-point road
win, ending a three-match skid against the Continentals. The win
over St. Lawrence ran the Diplomats' streak to four-straight
against the Saints, while the victory over Colgate was
F&M's sixth-straight over the Raiders.
Katherine Barnes (3-4), Hannah Davis (1-1, 3-1 exh.), Elizabeth
Gatling (3-4), Roxanna Mead (3-4), Morgan Smith (3-3) and Sheena
Suckoo (3-3) all won three-straight matches, while Davis has now
won four-in-a-row. For Smith, the Diplomats No. 1, the victory over
her Hamilton opponent marked the 20th of her career.
No. 6, Gabby Robinson, went 2-2 on the weekend and is a win
away from joining Smith with 20 career wins.
Gatling, Mead, and Melissa Sandoval (1-0) each picked up their
first collegiate wins on the weekend.
F&M heads into the semester break with a record of 3-4, the
best mark at the end of the first semester in the John White era.
The 2006-2007 Diplomats were 4-3 at the break. F&M returns to
action on January 14th at Amherst.
