NEW HAVEN, CONN. - Ninth-ranked Penn moved into Sunday's Hoehn
Cup finals on the strength of a 6-3 win over Franklin &
Marshall at the College Squash Association (CSA) Championships. The
Diplomats (12-10) took the top three matches from the Quakers
(6-7).
No. 1 Gabriel de Melo (15-6) got back into his winning ways with
a sweep of Dan Greenberg, 11-3, 11-6, 11-5. Greenberg was defeated
by the Diplomats' no. 2 Guillherme de Melo (18-3) when the two
teams met in December, giving the brothers a win over a common
opponent.
Mark Froot, who took Garbiel de Melo in three back in December,
fell in four to the Guillherme this afternoon, 9-11, 11-2, 13-11,
11-9. Guillherme has now won seven straight.
Sadiq Madraswala (14-7) handled Trevor McGuinness in five after
falling behind 2-1. The Quakers swept the rest of the lineup to
secure the victory with tightly played matches throughout.
Franklin & Marshall returns to action tomorrow to play for
either 11th or 12th place. The Diplomats will
face Bates at Choate at 3:00 p.m. Bates defeated F&M 6-3 at the
Yale Round Robin back in January.
