HARTFORD, Conn. -- After a successful Friday's at the 2010 CSA
individual championships, Franklin & Marshall's de Melo
brothers were ousted from the tournament in their first matches of
the day.
No. 17 Gabriel de Melo, who became the first men's squash
All-American from F&M in over a decade yesterday, saw his
tournament run ended by No. 23 Randy Lim (Trinity), 11-9, 11-8,
12-10. The loss concludes de Melo's sophomore season at 16-9.
Harvard's Colin West, who bumped Gabriel de Melo from the
championship draw yesterday, advanced to tomorrow's championship
final.
No. 20 Guilherme de Melo fell in four to No. 11 Todd Ruth
(Yale), 11-8,8-11,11-7,11-9. The younger de Melo ends his freshman
campaign with a record of 20-5. He is the first Diplomat to 20 wins
in over a decade.
The CSA individual championships wrap up the 2009-2010 season
for the Diplomats. F&M finished the season ranked 11th in the
nation. The Diplomats will await the final individual rankings
following the conclusion of the tourament.
