LEHIGH, Pa. - None of Franklin & Marshall's wrestlers
survived day one of the 106th EIWA Championships. The
championship meet got underway Saturday morning at Lehigh. Jake
Bucha (133) and Matt Fullowan (174) picked up the only victories of
the day for the Diplomats.
Unseeded in the 133-pound bracket, Bucha (19-6) toppled the
fifth seed, Penn's Brian Ortenzio with a 6-5 decision. Bucknell's
David Marble bumped Bucha from the bracket via technical fall,
before Army's Travis Coffey eliminated the senior from the
consolation bracket.
Fullowan (18-10), the seventh seed in the 174-pound bracket,
pasted a 4-2 decision on Navy's Michael Billings before falling
10-2 to the second seed, Penn's Scott Giffin. Columbia's Stephen
West ended the Diplomats' day with a 7-3 decision in the
consolation bracket.
The EIWA Championship marks the culmination of the Diplomats'
season.
