LANCASTER, Pa. – Stevenson rallied
scoring four runs at the top of the seventh inning in game two to
earn a 5-3 come-from-behind victory and sweep the Diplomats in
non-conference softball action on Saturday afternoon. F&M fell
to 7-10, while the Mustangs, who won the first game 5-4, improved
to 16-12.
In the top of the seventh of game two with two outs on the board
and the bases loaded, Lisa Bilski slammed a double that sent home
three player to put the Mustangs on top 5-2. Despite recording
another run in the bottom of the seventh, the Diplomats could not
recover and had to suffer the loss.
It was all about defense for the Diplomats in the game. The
squad held Stevenson scoreless until the bottom of the sixth as
F&M tallied two runs throughout the frames. Caitlin Elfring
picked up an RBI when she singled to first base and sent home Megan
Pauley in the first.
It was Chudzik's turn to single and send Pauley home in the
third to nab the Diplomats second run. Four innings later, Bilski
sent three players home to give the Mustangs a 5-2 edge.
Danielle Murphy was walked in the bottom of the seventh with two
outs registered. Pauley smacked a double straight up the middle and
sent Murphy home to record the final run of the day and saddle
F&M with the loss.
Julianne Roper earned the win with two strikeouts and eight
hits.
Sara Damato suffered the loss, allowing eight hits and retiring
four batters.
Stevenson took control of game one in the first frame, tallying
five runs. Jessica Bandzwolek hit a grand slam to left center field
to earn four of the Mustangs' final runs.
Action remained scoreless until the bottom of the fourth when
the Diplomats got on the board. Liz Chudzik recorded the Blue and
White's first run when she sprinted home on a passed ball. Kelly
Marchisio then stepped up and singled to right field plating Elena
Stein and Julianne Whitleigh.
F&M added another run in the sixth as Megan Pauley hit a
sacrifice fly to left field and Stein touched home. The Diplomats
could not muster another run, however, and had to settle for a
one-run loss.
Sarah Moelter nabbed the win, allowing six hits and fanning four
batters.
Chudzik took the loss, allowing two hits and striking out
two.
Pauley collected two runs and two RBIs on the day and Chudzik
tallied a run and an RBI.
The Diplomats host a Centennial Conference double header with
Gettysburg on Tuesday, April 13. The first game is slated for 3:30
p.m.
