Franklin & Marshall went 1-2 on a weekend slate that included #1 Trinity and #2 Yale. The #9 Diplomats (9-5) posted their fifth shutout of the season at the expense of #24 Colby.
Trinity (8-0) rolled up its 232nd consecutive victory with a 9-0 win at Mayser Center Sunday afternoon. The Bantams have shut out six of the eight opponents they have faced this season and have only dropped three individual matches.
Though defeated, the Diplomats refused to concede a point. Trailing 2-0 in the eighth match, Aadit Zaveri stretched Matthew Mackin to a fourth game that required 50 points for the Bantam to close things out, 11-9, 11-2, 11-13, 26-24. Gabriel and Guillherme de Melo were two of seven Diplomats that took their opponent to a fourth game.
The Diplomats started the weekend with an 8-1 loss at Yale (8-1) on Friday afternoon. Ninth-ranked Gabriel de Melo , staved off the shutout with a five-game win over the seventh-ranked Hywel Robinson, 11-8, 9-11, 6-11, 11-6, 14-12. F&M rebounded in the evening with a 9-0 win over Colby (2-8), the tenth-straight over the Mules.
The Diplomats return to action on February 5 at George Washington University.
