LANCASTER, Pa. – Princeton swept the first five bouts en
route to a 34-6 Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association
(EIWA) win over Franklin & Marshall Saturday afternoon.
The Tigers (3-6, 2-1 EIWA) raced out to a 9-0 lead with Brandon
Rolnick (6-13) posting a 15-2 major over Andrew
Murano (2-9) and Daniel Kolodzik (13-7) rolling up a first
period technical fall on Eric
Norgard (3-8). Rolnick piled up four takedowns and five back
points to set the tone for the day in the 149-pound bout. A
takedown and 14 back points gave Kolodzik the technical fall as the
first period buzzer sounded.
The early momentum was continued with a pair of decisions before
Travis Erdman (11-7) recorded a first period pin at 184 pounds to
blow open the lead, 21-0.
Ely finally stopped the bleeding in the 197-pound match. He and
Jake
Bucha (13-1) accounted for the Diplomats' (0-6, 0-4 EIWA) only
wins of the afternoon. The pair remains undefeated in dual meets
this season.
Ely secured a takedown and worked a 58-second ride that proved
to be the difference in the 5-4 decision of Dan Santoro (2-8).
At 10-4, Ely is a win away from matching his career high for
wins in a season.
Santoro worked from the bottom in the second, but was not able
to escape until 23 seconds of the period had expired. Ely's quick
escape to start the third denied Santoro the chance to cut down the
riding clock, but the Tiger responded with a quick takedown to gain
the lead. Ely escaped quickly once again to knot it up, 4-4. That
was the score at the final buzzer, when Ely collected the riding
point for the win.
Bucha used four takedowns to put Aaron Krop on ice, 10-4, in the
133-pound bout. He and Ely are 6-0 in dual meet competition this
season.
The Diplomats return to action next Sunday at the Shorty
Hitchcok Invitational at Millersville.
