LANCASTER, Pa. - Franklin & Marshall took down visiting Swarthmore, 152-110, in Centennial Conference (CC) women's swimming action on Saturday afternoon at the Kunkel Aquatic Center. The Diplomats improve to 2-2 (2-0 CC) with the victory, while the Garnet fall to 1-2 (1-1 CC).
At least two F&M swimmers earned points with top-three placings in nine of the 14 events on the afternoon. The Garnet opened the meet with a victory in the 200-yard medley relay, but the Diplomats followed with a clean-sweep of the 1000-yard freestyle as they led for the remainder of the contest.
Katherine Grant captured the 1000 freestyle for F&M with a mark of 10:55.44, followed by Olivia Hill (10:56.13) and Garland Bartlett (11:14.05) in second and third, respectively. Grant also won the 500-yard freestyle at 5:15.06 and placed third in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:00.48.
Christina Werner also posted a pair of victories for the Diplomats, securing both the 100 and 200-yard breastrokes with narrow margins in both. Werner out-touched teammate Katherine DeCrosta by just .23 seconds with a mark of 1:11.37 in the 100, and later won the 200 at 2:34.06, edging Swarthmore's Meggaie Regan by just .04 seconds.
In the backstroke, Caitlyn Fuller and Krista Hollingsworth led the way for F&M. Fuller secured a victory in the 100 with a time of 1:03.55, while Hollingsworth came in at 1:03.83 to nab second. The two reversed order in the 200 as Hollingsworth claimed first at 2:16.68, with Fuller taking second at 2:17.70.
The Diplomats closed out the meet by claiming the top two places in the 200-yard freestyle relay. The team of Hollingsworth, Jackie Behr, Grant and Rebecca Daen took first, touching in 1:42.71. Hill, Maggie Johns, Charlotte Katter and DeCrosta finished second in 1:48.05.
F&M returns to the pool on Saturday, Nov. 19 at Washington College at 1:00 pm in CC action.
