LANCASTER, Pa. - Third-ranked Princeton defeated eighth-ranked Franklin & Marshall, 7-2, in men's squash action on Saturday. The match was the season opener for both the Diplomats (0-1) and Tigers (1-0).

Guilherme de Melo and Mauricio Sedano notched the lone victories of the afternoon for the Diplomats. de Melo took down Chris Callis in four sets (11-5, 11-8, 8-11, 11-7) to earn a point at the No. 2 spot for F&M, while Sedano recorded a straight sets win at No. 3 (11-8, 11-5, 11-5).

While the Tigers claimed the other seven matches, the match was tighter than the final score may indicate as four of F&M's defeats went to at least four sets.

Princeton's Steve Harrington outlasted Aadit Zaveri at the No. 6 position in five sets (7-11, 6-11, 11-3, 11-8, 11-8), while Ash Egan and Sujat Barua went the distance at No. 8, with Egan coming out on top in a back-and-forth affair (6-11, 11-8, 13-11, 6-11, 11-5).

At the No. 1 spot, 11th-ranked Gabriel de Melo battled top-ranked Todd Harrity, but fell 11-3, 11-6, 7-11, 11-5. Jack Cutler also pushed his opponent, Dylan Ward, to a fourth set at No. 7, but ultimately came out on the losing end of a 12-10, 8-11, 11-6, 11-5 count.

The Diplomats return to the court on Sunday, Nov. 20 at home against Dartmouth at 11:00 am.
