Box Score 2 OWING MILLS, Md. – Franklin & Marshall improved to 16-8-1 with a 5-3 win over Stevenson Thursday. The second game of the doubleheader ended in a 5-5 tie and was called due to darkness in the bottom of the seventh inning.
The Diplomats took a 2-0 lead after three innings in the first game.
Malorie Sassaman put the first run on the board with a RBI single to left in the first inning.
Samantha Denoville made it 2-0 in the third with an infield single that scored
Julie Jefferson.
Jefferson scored
Danielle Murphy with a single in the top of the fifth and Stevenson matched it in the bottom of the inning to make 3-1. F&M answered with a pair of runs in the sixth.
Megan Pauley singled before stealing second, advancing to third on a Sassaman's single and stole home. Jefferson's double to right plated Sassaman to give F&M a 5-1 lead. Stevenson added two in the bottom of the seventh.
The Diplomats started the second game with a run in first on
Alicia Kukoda's infield single. Stevenson exploded for four runs in the second before F&M matched it in the third.
Rachel Laufer stroked a one-out single to score Jefferson to make it 4-2. Schellaci singled scoring Kukoda and Pauley reached on fielder's choice to tie the game at 4-4. Murphy put F&M ahead 5-4 with a single to score Schellaci. The Mustangs knotted the game 5-5 in the bottom of the seventh before the game was called.
Nicole Casey pitched seven innings for F&M with four strikeouts and five walks. Jefferson and Schellaci both had two hits to lead the offense.
F&M returns to Centennial Conference play Saturday at Swarthmore.
