SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall's women's swimming team came up short against Swarthmore on Saturday afternoon in Centennial Conference (CC) action, dropping the meet 114-91. With the loss, the Diplomats fall to 1-2, 1-1 CC, while the Garnet improve to 3-0, 2-0 CC.
Swarthmore took the early lead in the meet, winning the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:52.94. Caitlyn Fuller, Rebecca Citti, Stephanie Brooks and Jackie Behr finished in second with a time of 1:58.71
Katherine Grant won the next event, touching the wall first in the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:57.05. Teammate Maggie Johns came in second with a time of 11:00.50.
The Garnet started to pour on the victories, winning the next six races in the meet to take an unassailable lead. Grant did her best to keep the contest close, winning her second race of the day in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:19.29. Johns finished second with a time of 5:21.34, while teammate Alexia Tomlinson came in third with a time 5:24.84.
The Diplomats closed out the contest on a high note, dominating the final race of the afternoon. In the 200-yard freestyle relay, a team of Krista Hollingsworth, Courtney Gregor, Taylor Mateja and Behr placed first with a time of 1:44.17. Another F&M team, consisting of Kendra Poirier Charlotte Katter, Tomlinson and Courtney Collins finished in second with a time of 1:46.01.
F&M returns to the pool this Friday when it travels to compete against Widener. The contest is set to begin at 6:00 p.m.
