BOSTON, Mass. - Richard Durso and Andrew Murano each notched a pair of victories on the day as the Franklin & Marshall wrestling team fell to Brown and Boston University in dual meet action on Saturday.
The Diplomats (1-2) dropped a 24-12 decision to Brown (1-0) earlier in the day, before falling 25-16 to Boston University (2-0) in a match that came down to the final bout.
Trailing 6-0 after the opening two bouts against Brown, Durso and Murano evened the score with back-to-back wins by decision. Durso downed Cortlandt Chote at 149 pounds 6-1, while Murano took down Zachary Tannenbaum at 149 by an 8-4 count.
Colin Lahiff (165) and Colin Gironda (285) also earned victories by decision for the Diplomats, but the Bears were triumphant in four of the final six matchups, including a pair of pins, to take the match.
In the nightcap against the Terriers, 125-pounder Aaron Moldoff gave F&M an early 4-0 advantage with a convincing 12-0 major decision over Mike Mayo. Boston University's B.J. Suitor registered a 10-4 win over Robert Ruiz at 133 to pull the match within one, 4-3, but Durso and Murano came through with two tight wins by decision to extend the F&M edge to 10-3. Durso topped Tyler Scotten 5-3, and Murano followed up with a 7-5 triumph over Colin Saunders.
The Terriers then mounted a comeback as they recorded two major decisions and two technical falls throughout the ensuing four bouts to grab a 21-10 lead. Isaiah Cromwell pulled the Diplomats within striking distance, 21-16, with a pinning of Kristian Meyer in just 30 seconds at 197, but Kevin Innis sealed the win for Boston University with a 10-2 major decision at 285.
The Diplomats return to action tomorrow at Sacred Heart at 11:00 a.m.
