NEW HAVEN, Conn. - No. 15 Franklin & Marshall split a pair of matches against No. 13 Bates and No. 11 Middlebury on Saturday at the Yale Round Robin. The Diplomats began the day with a 6-3 triumph over Bates, before falling to Middlebury 9-0.
In the 6-3 win over the Bobcats, F&M dominated the bottom half of the lineup, taking spots six through nine en route to the win. The Diplomats secured each of their six points in straight games.
Roxanna Mead and Chelsea Ross posted wins near the top of the lineup, with Mead defeating Chloe Mitchell at No. 2 11-6, 13-11, 11-7, and Ross downing Lesea Bourke at No. 3 11-9, 11-8, 11-5.
Katherine Perry (No. 6), Krista Lancione (No. 7), Cris Margaret Frias (No. 8), and Dana Rapisarda (No. 9) also tallied victories for F&M. Rapisarda, Frias and Lancione each claimed wins in impressive fashion, holding their opponents to 10 total points or less, while Perry came out on top in three close games to edge Ali Bragg 11-9, 11-9, 11-9.
The Diplomats wrapped up the day with a 9-0 setback to Middlebury in a match that was much closer than the final score indicates. F&M captured at least one game at five spots in the lineup, with two of those losses coming in the fifth and decisive game. Mead and Ross stretched their opponents to five, while Emily Caldwell (No. 1), Jazmin Matos (No. 4) and Frias (No. 7) each nabbed one game in their defeats.
The Diplomats conclude the Yale Round Robin tomorrow morning against Williams at 9:00 a.m.
