F&M Competes at Millersville Open

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. - Franklin & Marshall wrapped up a busy weekend of wrestling by having several grapplers compete at the Millersville Open on Sunday. There was no team scoring in the event.

Multiple Diplomats posted more than one victory on the day, with Chuckie Kerkesner (285) leading the way with a 3-2 mark. Kerkesner dropped his opener to Penn State's Nicholas Ruggear by major decision, but bounced back with three straight victories in the consolation bracket. The freshman topped Jeremy Benton of Penn State by a 7-1 decision, moved past Yaseen Mudassar by forfeit, and downed Cody Klempay of North Carolina by fall in 6:39 before being eliminated in the wrestleback quarterfinals.

At 174, Colin Gironda and Ekow Eshun both earned a pair of victories. Gironda opened with a 13-1 major decision against Sam Sheppard of Sacred Heart, and later tallied a 17-2 technical fall win over Penn State Mont Alto's Kenneth Burrs. Eshun responded from a first round loss with back to back wins by decision in the consolations. The freshman defeated Millersville's Nick Mancini 6-1 and Nassau Community College's Basil Lawson 7-4 for his first wins of the year.

Brandon Giovanetti (141) and Rob King (165) also posted wins for F&M, both claiming triumphs in their opening matches.

F&M returns to dual meet action on Friday at Bucknell at 7:00 p.m.
