Bartner Score Lifts F&M in OT

Box Score

LANCASTER, Pa. – A Stephanie Bartner goal in the 92nd minute broke a scoreless match and handed the Franklin & Marshall women's soccer team a 1-0 OT victory over Washington College on Saturday afternoon in Centennial Conference (CC) action.

With the thrilling win, the Diplomats improved to 5-5-3, 3-2-2 CC on the season, while the Shorewomen dropped to 4-8-2, 1-6 CC.

Action heated up just two minutes into overtime when an Alexa Yarish shot from the top of the box nailed the crossbar and shot back into play. Washington attempted the clear the ball from its zone but Bartner was there for the interception.

The senior forward turned and fired a shot from the right side that ricocheted off a Shorewomen defender and into the back of the net for the game winner.

F&M dominated possession throughout the contest, outshooting Washington 26-3 on the day and forcing Shorewomen goalkeeper Melissa Barry (4-8-2) to come up with eight saves.

One of those stops came with just 1:25 remaining in the opening frame when a Bartner corner found the head of Nicole Rynecki in the box for an opportunity from five feet out that was fired into Berry's arms.

F&M net minder Amanda McGowan (5-4-3) went untested in the first as the Diplomats' defense held Washington without a shot.

The offense was in complete control in the second half, outshooting the Shorewomen 16-3. Another Bartner free kick in the 57th minute nearly broke a 0-0 tie. A well-placed header from Spencer Plante off the Bartner cross found a cutting Selena Boro on the right wing, but Berry stood tall in net to deny the F&M opportunity.

The Diplomats held the edge on corners at 4-1. Nine F&M players recorded a shot, led by five from Alexa Yarish.

Bartner and Plante each finished with four shots for the Diplomats, followed by three from Megan Rubenstein.

F&M returns to the field on Tuesday when the Diplomats travel to Gettysburg for a 7:00 p.m. CC matchup.
