F&M Competes at East Stroudsburg Open

EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. – The Franklin & Marshall wrestling team competed at the 47th annual East Stroudsburg Open on Sunday afternoon at the Koehler Fieldhouse.

Scott Stevens took his opening bout at 133 against Connor Kirkegard of Delaware Valley with a 3-2 decision before falling by decision in the next round at 4-2. In the consolation bracket, Stevens won three decisions (8-4, 3-2, 8-6) to advance to the finals but came up just short after being defeated by fall in the battle for fifth place.

Brandon Giovanetti and Tommy Quinlan both competed at 149 for the Diplomats. Giovanetti dropped an 8-0 bout in the opening round of the championships but tallied a 5-4 decision in the consolations. Quinlan won by fall in his first matchup before dropping a bout by fall in the following round.

After a major decision loss in the 165 championship bracket, Ekow Eshun responded with a 7-3 win in the consolations. Falling by decision at 6-4 in the opening round of 174. 

Chuckie Kerkesner earned a pair of wins by fall in the 197 championship bracket but fell to Harrison Cook of the University of Pennsylvania in the third round at 13-5.

F&M returns to action on Saturday when the Diplomats compete at the Navy Classic.
