PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The No. 15 Franklin & Marshall women's squash team edged out No. 19 Drexel 5-4 on Friday evening in Philadelphia to improve to 2-0 on the season, while the Dragons fell to 1-1.
Fiona Murphy picked up a victory at No. 1 with a 9-11, 11-5, 11-7, 11-7 win over Damindi Udangawa. Roxanna Mead took her first two games at No. 3 (11-3, 11-1) before dropping a 11-9 decision in the third game. However Mead was able to hang on at No. 4 with a narrow 11-10 win in the fourth to pick up the victory.
The No. 7-9 spots in the Diplomats' lineup came through by delivering key wins for F&M. Jazmin Matos battled at No. 7 with a 12-15, 11-10, 11-10, 11-6 victory followed by wins from Liz Gatling at No. 8 (11-9, 11-9, 11-1) and Krista Lancione at No 9 (11-10, 5-11, 2-11, 15-12, 11-10).
F&M returns to action tomorrow when the Diplomats take on No. 4 Princeton at home. The contest is set for a 12:00 p.m. start.
