PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The No. 7 Franklin & Marshall men's squash team opened its 2013 season with an 8-1 bashing of No. 21 Drexel on Friday evening in Philadelphia. The Diplomats sit at 1-0 on the year with the victory, while the Dragons fell to 1-2.
Playing in his first collegiate contest, Abhishek Pradhan led F&M at No. 1 with an 11-4, 10-11, 11-6, 9-11, 11-8 marathon victory. Jack Cutler took down Michael Thompson at No. 3 (11-8, 9-11, 11-7, 11-9), while Alex Arjoon followed at No. 5 with a straight-game victory over Mark Kauf (11-10, 11-3, 11-2).
Pedro Veiga de Almeida at the No. 5 spot and Brian Henry at No. 6 both won their contests in straight games with de Almeida defeating Sebastian Dangond 11-2, 11-5, 11-6 and Henry earning the victory with a 11-4, 11-8, 11-9 score.
No. 7-9 came through for F&M with each player picking up a straight-game win. Ryan Mullaney won handily at No. 7 (11-6, 11-6, 11-8) followed by Dylan Cunningham at No. 8 (11-8, 11-5, 11-6) and Aadit Zaveri at No. 9 (11-3, 11-5, 11-6).
The Diplomats return to action tomorrow when F&M hosts No. 3 Princeton at 12:00 p.m.
