F&M Competes at Fall Brawl

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Richard Durso, Andrew Murano and Alex Henry all ran the table in their respective brackets to pick up first-place finishes for the Franklin & Marshall wrestling team at the Fall Brawl, hosted by Ursinus, on Saturday.

As top seed in the 141 draw, Durso marched to gold with three-straight falls that included his victory over Jake Sepor of RIT in the finals. Murano won four-straight in the 157 bracket to take gold with two technical falls followed by two decisions that included a 4-1 win over Richard Jasinski of Ursinus in the championship. 

Henry won five-straight in the 285 bracket. He opened with wins by fall and technical fall, followed by two-straight decisions to reach the finals. In the championship, Henry dominated with a 10-2 major decision over Donald Shovestall of the U.S. Naval Academy to take gold. 

Jason Bing earned his first-career victory with a pair of wins by decision in the 125 bracket. Robert Ruiz also won two of his bouts at 133, each by way of fall, before bowing out in the semifinals. 

Michael Marano and Sharron Townsend both competed at 149. Marano earned a victory by fall while Townsend made it all the way to finals with a pair of major decisions and a pair of decisions before having to settle for silver after a loss to Brad Mayville of RTI in the finals.

At 174, Gordon Bolig rolled to the semifinals with a major decision and technical fall before dropping a 4-1 decision. Paul Alessandrini won a 5-2 decision at 184 before a 6-3 loss in the semifinals.

Chuckie Kerkesner and Isaiah Cromwell both competed at 197. Kerkesner earned his first win of the year with a victory by decision, while Cromwell won three-straight by fall before dropping a 5-1 decision in the semifinals. Kerksner rattled off three-straight in the consolation bracket, all by way of fall. 

F&M returns to action Saturday when the Diplomats travel to take on VMI at 4:00 p.m.
