NEW HAVEN, Conn. - No. 14 Franklin & Marshall was defeated 9-0 by No. 11 Middlebury in the first round of the College Squash Association (CSA) Team Championships on Friday afternoon. The Diplomats (10-10) slide into the consolation bracket of the Kurtz Cup (B Division) bracket with the loss, while the victory moves the Panthers (16-4) into the semifinals.
No. 2 Roxanna Mead put up the stiffest test for the Diplomats as she dropped a five-game decision to Abby Jenkins. Mead fell in the first game 12-10, before grabbing a 2-1 game lead with 11-9 and 11-7 triumphs in games two and three, respectively. Jenkins then bounced back with scores of 11-2, 11-5 to secure the narrow win.
The Panthers swept past the Diplomats at each of the other eight spots in the lineup to nab the shutout victory.
F&M returns to action in the Kurtz Cup consolations tomorrow against No. 10 Williams at 4:00 p.m.
