WESTMINSTER, Md. - Franklin & Marshall's women's swimming team fell in a hard fought 51-44 decision to McDaniel on Friday evening in Centennial Conference (CC) action. The Diplomats dropped to 5-2, 3-1 CC, while the Green Terror improved to 5-5, 2-3 CC.
Before the final race of the evening, both teams were tied at 44-44. In the 400-yard freestyle relay, a McDaniel team of Kerrin Holmes, Emma Duesterhaus, Shannon McClellan, and Sydney Knadley (3.39.82) edged F&M's Jillian Albus, Katherine Grant, Leeza Rojas, and Rebecca Daen (3.40.11) by 0.29 seconds to seal the victory.
F&M picked up their first victory of the night when Grant touched first in the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 11:04.91, while Alexia Tomlinson finished second at 11:10.78.
In the following event, the Diplomats' Daen earned a first-place victory in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:59.72 and Rojas finished in second at 2:00.33.
Albus earned her first victory of the night for F&M in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 24.80. In the 200-yard individual medley, Maggie Johns (2:20.13) and Courtney Collins (2:20.92) finished second and third respectively.
In the 100-yard butterfly, Albus touched the wall first for another first-place finish with a time of 1:00.50. In the 100-yard freestyle, Daen (55.11) placed second, while Rojas (56.69) finished fourth.
Grant touched first in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:20.81, while Johns finished second at 5:23.58.
F&M returns to the pool tomorrow when the Diplomats host Ursinus in CC action. The meet is set to begin at 1:00 p.m.
