FAIRFAX, Va. – The Franklin & Marshall wrestling team fell to George Mason by a 24-12 score on Saturday afternoon in Fairfax, Va. The loss snapped a four dual winning streak for the Diplomats, dropping their record to 4-3 on the season, while the Patriots improved to 6-10.
Jason Bing put F&M out in front by an early 3-0 score when the freshman 125-pounder edged out a 6-4 decision in the opening bout. Tied at 2-2 heading into the second, Bing recorded a takedown and a nearfall to secure the victory.
George Mason tied the match a 3-3 with a decision of its own at 133, before Richard Durso reclaimed the lead for the Diplomats with a 3-0 decision at 141. Securing an escape in the second period, Durso sealed the win in the third with a take down.
At 149, F&M fell behind once again when the Patriots charged out in front with a tech. fall victory to take an 8-6 lead. A pair of decisions by Andrew Murano at 157 (4-3) and Rob King at 165 (8-2) placed the momentum back on the Diplomat's side, giving F&M a 12-8 lead heading into 174.
However, the Diplomats would not score another point throughout the remainder of the dual as George Mason closed out the contest with an 8-0 major at 174, a 6-0 decision at 184, an 11-5 decision at 197 and a pin at 285.
F&M returns to the mat tomorrow when the Diplomats travel to Davidson for a trimatch. Action kicks off at 2:30 p.m. with a meeting against The Citadel before F&M takes on the host Wildcats at 4:00 p.m.
