Box Score HAVERFORD, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall fought hard but was unable to complete the comeback, falling to Haverford by a score of 2-1 in Centennial Conference (CC) women's soccer action on a rainy Saturday afternoon. The Diplomats slipped to 1-10, 0-5 CC, while the Fords moved to 5-4-2, 1-3 CC.
Down 2-0 with just under 15 minutes left to play in the contest, F&M's Brianna Reid received a pass from Nicole Rynecki about 12 yards from the net and through a crowd of players, Reid fired it in the back on the net to bring the Diplomats to within one at 2-1.
Throughout the remainder of the game, a tenacious Haverford defense did not allow many chances as the Fords held on the for the 2-1 victory.
The Fords first got on the board just under nine minutes into the opening half when Michelle Babicz broke free of a scramble in the box and beat F&M's Shannon Johnson-Finn to give Haverford an early 1-0 lead as the Fords held that lead going into halftime.
10 minutes into the second half, Haverford extended the lead when Krista Federici received a good pass from Skyler Ellenburg for a one-on-one opportunity against Johnson-Finn. Federici was able to sneak it past the Diplomat goalkeeper for the 2-0 advantage.
Reid, who netted her third goal of the year in this contest, led F&M with three shots on goal, while Kyra Judge and Rynecki added a shot apiece. Johnson-Finn (1-8) made six saves in between the pipes for the Diplomats.
The Fords held the advantage in shots at 14-8, while holding the edge in corner kicks as well at 9-2.
F&M continues CC play on Wednesday when the Diplomats host McDaniel at 7:00 p.m.
