CANTON, N.Y. – The No. 6 Franklin & Marshall men's squash team was edged out by No. 4 St. Lawrence on Saturday afternoon in a narrow 5-4 loss. The defeat broke an eight-match winning streak for the Diplomats and moved their overall record to 11-3 on the season, while the Saints improved to 9-2.
After dropping matches at No. 1 and No. 2, F&M recorded wins from No.'s 3-5. Wesley "Cole" Osborne got F&M in the in win column with a battle at the No. 3 position, taking down Ibrahim Khan with a grueling 3-2 score (10-12, 11-4, 11-5, 7-11, 11-7). Mauricio Sedano was solid at No. 3 in a 3-1 win (11-6, 6-11, 11-2, 11-8) while Alex Arjoon outdueled the Saints' Kyle Oglivy with a come from behind 3-2 victory (9-11, 10-12, 11-8, 14-12, 11-3).
Pedro Veiga de Almeida also placed a point in the win column for F&M with an 11-5, 11-6, 12-10 sweep at No. 6. Dylan Cunningham fought hard at the No. 7 spot but was ultimately handed his first loss of the season (11-1), falling to Anderson Good by a 3-1 tally (6-11, 12-10, 11-8, 11-8).
The Diplomats wrap up this weekend's competition tomorrow at 12:00 p.m. when F&M travels to take on No. 5 Rochester.
