PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Mauricio Sedano picked up a pair of wins on the day to move into the Pool Division (Men's A Draw) First Round Consolation Finals to pace Franklin & Marshall at the CSA Individual Championships on Saturday afternoon, hosted by Penn.
Sedano took down the No. 17 player in Vrishab Kotian of Trinity in the quarterfinals with a 3-0 sweep (11-9, 12-10, 11-6) before following with a marathon 3-2 win over No. 20 James Van Stavernen of Western Ontario in the semifinals. Sedano was in a 2-0 hole after falling in the opening sets at 11-9, 11-7 but battled back to take three-straight games (11-5, 11-7, 11-4). Tomorrow at 12:00 p.m., he will face off against either No. 18 Juan Vargas of Trinity or No. 24 Ahmed Hatata of Bates.
Abhishek Pradhan also competed for the Diplomats in the division, dropping an 11-3, 12-10, 11-8 contest to No. 15 Ryoshi Kobayashi of Rochester in the quarterfinals of the second round consolation bracket.
Dylan Cunningham saw his run in the Molloy Division (Men's B Draw) come to an end in the round of 16 with a hard-fought 4-11, 11-8, 10-12, 11-9, 11-7 loss to Dartmouth's Fletcher Pease.
Brian Henry continued his run in the division's first round consolation bracket, rattling off a pair of wins on the day to move into tomorrow's finals where he will take on NYU's Max McAfferty at 11:00 a.m. The junior from Penn Valley, Pa., kicked off the afternoon with 3-0 sweep (11-2, 11-5, 11-5) in the quarterfinals before handing Colgate's Christopher Smith a thrilling 3-2 defeat (11-6, 12-10, 7-11, 8-11, 11-5) in the semifinals.
