MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – Franklin & Marshall's No. 9 men's squash team faced little resistance at day one of the Middlebury Round Robin, downing No. 15 Bates by a 7-2 score Saturday morning, before following with a 9-0 sweep of No. 26 Connecticut in the afternoon. With the pair of wins, the Diplomats have now won three straight and improved to 8-5 on the season.
Against Bates (7-5), F&M picked up a boost from the middle and bottom part of its lineup after falling at No. 1 and No. 2. Dylan Cunningham (No. 3) outlasted his opponent by a 3-1 score (11-0, 13-11, 9-11, 11-7), while Alex Arjoon (No. 4) overcame a loss in his opening game to take three straight for the 3-1 victory (6-11, 11-9, 11-9, 11-9).
Brian Henry was strong at No. 5 with the 3-0 sweep (11-5, 11-2, 11-7) as No.'s 6-9 all downed their opponents by 3-0 scores in the match to deliver the decisive win to the Diplomats.
Later in the day against Connecticut College, F&M cruised to sweeps in all nine of its matchups. Cole Osborne was dominant at No. 2 with an 11-5, 11-1, 11-2 tally, while Cunningham cruised with an 11-1, 11-2, 11-3 mark.
Philip Kelly at No. 7, Peter Koekkoek at No. 8 and Erik Morque at No. 9 took advantage of spots in the lineup by anchoring the bottom portion of the lineup with three-game sweeps at each spot.
The Diplomats conclude action at the Middlebury Round Robin tomorrow with a pair of matches. F&M kicks off the day by facing off against Hamilton at 9:00 a.m. before taking on Middlebury at 11:30 a.m.
