LANCASTER, Pa. - No. 19 Gettysburg took down Franklin & Marshall 146-116 on Saturday afternoon in men's Centennial Conference (CC) swimming action. The Diplomats fell to 5-3, 4-2 CC, while the Bullets (9-0, 6-0 CC) ran their conference meet win streak to 30.
Seniors William Cappuccio, Dennis Chen, Richard Denton, and Steven Latka were honored before the meet for senior day.
Patrick Greaney gave F&M its first win of the day in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:10.93, while Dennis Chen earned a second-place spot in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:46.16.
In the 100-yard backstroke, Andreas Lair Ferrari finished second (54.35) followed by Denton in third (55.91). Ryan Caffrey won the 100-yard breaststroke at 1:00.40, and Cappuccio placed third with a time of 1:03.12. Caffrey added a third-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle at 49.13.
Richard Perry touched first in the 200-yard butterfly (2:00.07) and the 100-yard butterfly (53.41) while Lair Ferrari (1:55.72) was barely edged out for first place by Gettysburg's Michael Potter (1:55.69) in the 200-yard backstroke.
Cappuccio earned more points for the Diplomats in the 200-yard breaststroke, placing third at 2:19.93 and Chen touched the wall first in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:55.55, followed by Greaney in second at 4:58.85.
The Diplomats return to action on Friday, Feb. 20 at Day 1 of the CC Championships hosted by Gettysburg. Day 1 preliminaries are scheduled to begin at 11:00 a.m.
