Mancini, Pelusi Secure Third-Place Finishes at Binghamton Open

VESTAL, N.Y. – Anthony Mancini (unattached at 184 pounds) and Antonio Pelusi (285 pounds) each earned third-place finishes to pace Franklin & Marshall's DI wrestling team at Sunday's Jonathan Kaloust Bearcat Open, hosted by Binghamton.

Mancini dominated from the onset with a pin at 1:05 in his first match of the tournament before landing a 3-1 decision over DIII All-American Jordan Bushey from Oswego St. to reach the championship semifinals. Following a setback against Cornell's Maxwell Dean, Mancini was awarded third place due to a medical forfeit. 

Pelusi notched three straight wins, including a 12-3 major decision, to begin his tournament run. He reached the semifinals with a 5-3 win over EIWA-foe Ian Butterbrodt from Brown before dropping a hard-fought 2-1 (TB-1) decision to Binghamton's Connor Calkins. The junior 285-pounder bounced back against another top EIWA opponent, edging Penn's Patrick Garren with a 3-2 decision in the battle for third place. 

Additional highlights from Sunday are below:

133 Pounds 

  • Dan Martoccio picked up a 5-0 decision in his opening match before dropping down to the wrestle backs, where he fell to teammate Wil Gil in a 7-3 decision. Gil rebounded from a championship bracket defeat with a pair of wins in consolations, including a second-period pin (5:30). 

149 Pounds

  • Cole Aaron opened the championship bracket with a 4-1 decision over Binghamton's Dylan Wood.
  • Paddy Quinlan, competing unattached, avenged an opening round loss with a pair of decision wins in the wrestle backs.
  • Sam Butler earned a first-period pin (1:31) in the consolation bracket. 

157 Pounds 

  • Emmett LiCastri registered a late first-period pin in his opening championship bracket match after downing Ohio's Sal Ayala at 2:49. He added another pin in the consolation round to finish with a 2-2 record on the day. 

165 Pounds 

  • Freshman Dylan Gumaer picked up a 3-2 decision over Bucknell's Jack Mulay in the wrestle backs. 

174 Pounds

  • Josh Young began his tournament with a strong 3-0 decision over Bucknell's Brandon Stokes and added a 6-4 decision in the consolation bracket to finish with a 2-2 mark on the day.

184 Pounds 

  • Steven Mercadante was dominant in his first match, earning the 12-4 major decision over Harvard's Cole Bateman in the championship bracket. 

197 Pounds 

  • Philip Robilotto blanked his opening-round opponent with a 7-0 decision before falling down to the wrestle backs. He rattled off a pair of wins in consolations, including a dominant 12-0 major over Ohio's Nate Hall and wrapped up his tournament with a 3-2 record.

285 Pounds 

  • Parker Fox fought back from a loss in his first match with a 2-0 decision in the wrestle backs. Corey Kerkesner also garnered a consolation-round victory with a 3-2 decision over Army's Harrison Young.
