Comeback Bid Falls Short Against Princeton

LANCASTER, Pa. – Down by 12 points heading into 165, Franklin & Marshall's wrestling team rattled off two consecutive decision wins to pull within six, but was unable to close the gap against Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association (EIWA) foe Princeton, dropping a 28-9 match on Friday evening in Lancaster.

The contest ended the Diplomats dual meet schedule for the season at 4-9, 1-7 EIWA while the Tigers improved to 9-8, 6-3 EIWA.

Edgar Garcia gave No. 33 Ty Agaisse all he could handle at 125 but ultimately came up short by a 4-1 tally. At 133, Dan Martoccio appeared in control, carrying a 6-1 lead into the second with a takedown and four nearfall points in the opening stanza. However, a wild third saw Princeton's Pat D'Arcy collect six points in the closing minute to secure a 13-9 decision.

Paddy Quinlan put a stop to the Tigers run at 141, sealing a 10-7 decision by registering a takedown with 30 seconds remaining in the final period to put F&M's first points on the board. Bonus points from Princeton at 149 and 157 gave the Tigers a commanding 12-point advantage heading into 165.

Senior captain Robbie King responded with a clutch 8-1 decision, scoring five points in the third to deliver three points for the Diplomats. Jimmy Stillerman added three more to the team total at 174, picking up a late third-period takedown to swing a 3-2 decision in his favor and cut the overall team deficit to six.

F&M was unable to get any closer, dropping the final three matches of the evening. Gordon Bolig battled at 197, but fell in a 2-1 bout that was decided by riding time.

The regular season concludes for the Diplomats on Sunday, Feb. 26 when F&M sends wrestlers to compete at the National Collegiate Open (NCO) in Dover, Del.
