ST. DAVID'S, Pa. – Two more goals from scoring-leader Nicolette Runko lifted Franklin & Marshall's women's soccer team to an emphatic 3-0 shutout of Eastern on Tuesday afternoon in non-conference competition.
The Diplomats improved to 10-5-1 with their fifth consecutive win while the Eagles dropped to 7-9-1.
With the victory, F&M reached double-digit wins for the first time since 2005.
Runko continued her torrid stretch with her team-leading 10th and 11th goals of the season. The senior defender has tallied markers in three straight games and has eight goals in her last five contests.
Just seven minutes passed in the opening half when Runko got the Diplomats on the board, taking a feed from Anna Coleman and landing a strike from 15 yards out for the 1-0 edge.
In the 44th, Runko tacked on to send F&M into the break with a 2-0 lead with a shot to the upper right. F&M ended the half with an 8-4 lead in shots while corners were even at 4-4.
Meg O'Callahan wrapped up the scoring in the 54th. Runko slipped a pass to O'Callahan at the top of the box, who notched a turnaround shot that found the back of the net.
Goalkeeper Sara Ghorashi (8-5) stopped two shots in 57 minutes for the win. Gabby Panayotakis finished the game and recorded four saves in net.
The final shot count was dominated by F&M at 16-6 with an 8-2 advantage in the second frame. Runko led the charge with five shots, followed by Izzy Hunter with three.
The Diplomats finish out the regular season by traveling to No. 5 Johns Hopkins for a 3:00 p.m. tilt.
