Final Brackets
BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall's Wil Gil wrapped up his run at the Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association (EIWA) Championships, hosted by Lehigh on Saturday, with an eighth-place showing in the 141-pound bracket.
Following the conclusion of the event, the Diplomats were honored with the Good Sportsmanship Award – voted on by working officials of the Tournament.
Wil Gil – Day 2
Gil, who was the bracket's No. 6 seed, battled Cornell's No. 5-seeded Noah Baughman in the Consolation Round of Four and took him to the wire with a tough 12-11 setback loss. Gil led by a 7-4 mark after the first, before suffering a pair of takedowns in the second period.
Ahead 10-9 in the third, Gil chose bottom and earned an early escape to increase his lead by two. However, Baughman registered a takedown with 36 seconds to go and received the riding time point to claim the win.
In the seventh-place match, Gil once again was involved in a close affair, this time dropping a high-scoring 17-13 decision to No. 9- seeded Corey Shie of Army. Gil battled back from a 7-2 deficit in the first to tally six quick points with a reversal and four back points in the second to close within one. However, Shie followed with a reversal of his own and a pair of takedowns in the frame to put the match away for good.
