LANCASTER, Pa. – The Franklin & Marshall women's swimming team split its non-conference tri-meet on Saturday as the Diplomats defeated York (Pa.) by a commanding 209-43 score, but fell to Mary Washington by a 189-73 margin.
The Diplomats' event winning performance came in the 200 yard Medley Relay as the team of Julie McFadden, Sophie Moyer, Amelia Bothwell, and Olivia Lockey won the first event of the afternoon with a time of 1:52.22.
On the national level, Moyer had a very strong day as her runner-up finish in the 100 yard Breastroke landed her the third-best time in school history and made her the 31st-fastest swimmer in Division III this season. Moyer was also part of the runner-up 200 yard Freestyle relay that finished with the 17th-quickest time in Division III. Only the 15th-fastest time in the country from Mary Washington was able to deny the Diplomats a sweep of the relay victories. Helen Lahmann-Metcalfe, Julie McFadden, and Rachel Baker were also on that relay and had their own individual success throughout the afternoon.
McFadden added to her successful day with a second-place finish in the 200 yard Backstroke. Baker was third in the 100 yard Backstroke, while Lahmann-Metcalfe picked up a pair of bronze medal finishes in the 50 and 100 yard Freestyle races. Sarah Gartner turned in a pair of top-three finishes in the 200 and 500 yard Freestyle individual events, while Georgia May was also among the top three finishers in the 1,000 yard Freestyle.
Women's swimming will return to Centennial Conference regular season action next Saturday when Dickinson visits the Kunkel Aquatic Center for a 3 p.m. start. Both teams will enter that meet with a 2-1 regular season record against conference opponents.
