Brophy Hat Trick Lifts F&M Over Hood

Box Score

LANCASTER, Pa. -- Franklin & Marshall (7-0-1, 1-0-0 CC) exploded for six goals in a 6-0 shutout non-conference victory over Hood on Wednesday evening in Lancaster. Sierra Brophy led the way with a hat trick, while Haley Barge, Alison Francis, and Delaney Bessel added in a trio of goals.

F&M wasted little time getting started, as a Lainie Anderson through-ball found a streaking Brophy who lasered it home for a 1-0 advantage just 1:31 into the match.

Brophy struck again just over nine minutes later, as a corner played short between Lainie Anderson and Dahila Pepe was sent into the box. The sophomore forward nodded it home for her second of the game.

Haley Barge extended the lead, as the senior tracked down a weighted ball from Meg O'Callahan and punched it in for a 3-0 lead in the 32nd minute.

Brophy completed the hat trick less than two minutes after the halftime whistle. Dahlia Pepe's corner from the right side bounced through traffic, where Brophy collected and slotted it home for a 4-0 lead.

Alison Francis got in on the scoring in the 67th minute, once again collecting a pass from O'Callahan and rounding the keeper for a 5-0 edge.

Delaney Bessel polished off the scoring with an 89th minute goal, beating her defender on the right flank and knocking it in for the 6-0 final.

F&M outshot Hood 27-3, including 13-0 in the first half. The Diplomats also held a hearty edge in corner kicks by a 12-2 margin.

Haley Barge and Alison Francis led F&M with five shots each, while Sierra Brophy had four, and Delaney Bessel and Meg O'Callahan had three apiece.

O'Callahan, Pepe, and Anderson all tallied two assists apiece. O'Callahan now has eight assists in eight games, registering helpers in six of F&M's eight games thus far.

Sara Ghorashi picked up the win with 45 minutes of saveless soccer in the first half. Emily Senko made one save in her nearly 22 minutes of play, while Caton Raffensperger preserved the shutout with her 23 minutes.

The Diplomats hit the road to face No. 19 Dickinson on Saturday afternoon with a 2:30pm start in Carlisle.
