Five Wrestlers Go Undefeated at Army Round Robin

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Franklin & Marshall wrestling team battled EIWA foes Army-West Point and American in Extra Countable Matches on Sunday afternoon in New York. Gio Diaz (125 lbs.), Cristiaan Dailey (149 lbs.), Crew Fullerton (165 lbs.), James Conway (184 lbs.), and Cenzo Pelusi (285 lbs.) led the Diplomats with perfect 2-0 records. Those results were part of a very strong day overall as the team posted a combined 17-9 record. No team scores were kept at this event.

Fullerton (8-8 season record) was particularly impressive as he did not see the second period during either of his victories, pinning a pair of opponents from American in 1:06 and 1:57. Fullerton now has three pins on the year after Sunday's performance. Diaz (4-2 at 125 lbs.) had another fall for F&M as he defeated Army's EIWA placewinner Ryan Chauvin twice. After a 4-2 win during the first match, Diaz rolled to a fall in the third period to close his undefeated day.

Dailey and Pelusi gave the Diplomats three seniors who went undefeated. Dailey (9-4) also defeated a pair of American wrestlers, rolling up a 17-2 technical fall against Michael Glynos before a 5-0 decision against Ryan Zimmerman. Pelusi (8-5) was locked in two close battles. He defeated American's Isaac Righter by a 2-1 score in regulation and used the riding time advantage after the first tiebreaker to secure a 3-2 win over Brandon Phillips of Army. Conway (14-9) made it five undefeated Diplomats as he rolled up a 16-3 major decision against American's Mervin Mancia before a 5-3 victory versus Colin Shannon.

Seven more Diplomats split their matches on Sunday. Mike Waszen recorded bonus points with a pin of American's Connor Bourne in 5:55. That pin was the first of his senior campaign. At 133 lbs., Pat Phillips (11-8) and Jack Bruce notched respective 10-0 and 3-2 victories over Shamil Kalmatov of American. Bruce's win was his first of the season after wrestling attached for the first time this year during the recent dual against Davidson. Wil Gil found himself in a pair of tough matches, defeating Army's Julian Sanchez by a 7-6 score before falling 3-2 against two-time EIWA placewinner and 2019 NCAA qualifier Corey Shie. Gil is now 17-5 on the year, including an 8-1 record against EIWA competition.

Chase McCollum and Noah Fox both picked up regular decisions against American. McCollum was a 6-0 winner against Elijah White, while Fox (12-8) earned an 8-3 win against Benjamin Root. Chris Hisey added a win to his season record for the Diplomats as he received an injury default victory against Michael Glynos.

The Diplomats will return to dual action this week with trips to Gettysburg (Wednesday, January 26 at 7 p.m.) and Sacred Heart (Sunday, January 30 at 12 p.m.).
