LANCASTER, Pa. – The Franklin & Marshall women's swimming team opened up its 2022-23 season by hosting the Centennial East Quad Meet on Saturday inside the Kunkel Aquatic Center. The Diplomats started the year 2-1, falling to defending Centennial Conference Champion Swarthmore (208-53), but defeating both Ursinus (141-116) and McDaniel (207-41). The meet also marked the head coaching debut for Joe Acquaviva who was named the team's head coach over the summer.
The returning talent on the team certainly shined bright during the opening meet of the season as the Diplomats turned in a number of top individual performances. Georgia May (1000 Free) and Julie McFadden (50 Free) both finished runner-up in those respective races and were additionally part of the runner-up 200 Medley Relay. May went on to place fifth in the 500 Free event.
Sophie Moyer had a pair of third place finishes in the breaststroke, taking those honors at the 100 and 200 yard distances. She also swam the breaststroke leg of the medley relay that saw Amelia Bothwell complete that runner-up effort from the relay. Bothwell added a fifth-place finish in the 100 Fly (1:02.77) and 200 Fly (2:21.39) to highlight her individual performances. Catherine Crampton made it a pair of top-four finishers in the 200 Breast as she was just behind Moyer. Crampton was later fourth in the 200 IM as well (2:17.68).
Emma Devine was one of the newcomers to make a big impact during her collegiate debut as she placed fourth in the 200 Free (2:03.22). In the shorter distances, senior Olivia Lockey took fourth in the 100 Free (55.80).
Women's swimming continues its challenging start to the season with a home meet against Gettysburg next Friday, October 28 that is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m. The Bullets were picked just one spot ahead of the Diplomats as these teams took second and third at the 2022 Centennial Conference Championships.
