LANCASTER, Pa. – The Franklin & Marshall women's squash team notched a key 6-3 win against No. 23 Chatham on Sunday to finish third overall at the Penn Cup. The No. 21 Diplomats hosted the event and earned a pair of crucial five-game victories to help swing the final score in their favor.
Gurlin Kaur (No. 2) and Aryaa Ogale (No. 3) registered those pivotal team points in the top third of the ladder. Kaur was trailing 2-1 in her match after dropping two tightly-contested games, but rallied back for 11-8 and 11-9 victories. Ogala was facing a 2-0 deficit but won three consecutive games to emerge victorious at No. 3. That comeback was capped with a game that went to extra points before the 12-10 final fell in favor of the Diplomats.
Chatham had a 3-2 win of its own at No. 4 that was ultimately decided in a 17-15 final game. In addition to winning the key battles at the top of the lineup, the Diplomats dominated the bottom half of the ladder to secure the win. The Diplomats swept the No. 6 through No. 9 positions on the ladder with Zoe Quayle, Gabby Ramos, Iman Jaikishan, and Sara Ghorashi all claiming 3-0 victories.
Women's squash will be back at home next Saturday when the team welcomes No. 12 Tufts to the Mayser Center Squash Courts. That match is scheduled to begin at 12 p.m. noon.
