BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Franklin & Marshall men's squash team moved up to No. 15 in the national rankings when the Diplomats last competed. Today, F&M backed up that national ranking with hard-fought wins at both No. 20 Colby (w, 5-4) and No. 21 Bowdoin (w, 6-3) as the team made a weekend trip to Maine.
The top of the lineup was particularly strong for the Diplomats, highlighted by 2-0 records from Jordan Sprecher (No. 2) and Kyle Broadhurst (No. 3). Sprecher came through with a huge five-game win during the narrow 5-4 victory against Colby before racking up a sweep that featured a 15-13 tiebreak to win his third game against Bowdoin. Sprecher is now a team-best 4-1 in his matches this season.
Broadhurst also notched his fourth victory of the season after a perfect day for him in the courts. During the opening match, he won in four games before a 17-15 tiebreak secured his sweep during the victory against Bowdoin. Another key victory in the match with Colby came at No. 6 where Flavio Hinostroza rallied from down 2-0 to win in five games and help stave off any thoughts of an upset bid from the host Mules.
The Diplomats used a very balanced lineup throughout the day as nine different players recorded a victory towards the winning varsity scores. Petr Nohel (No. 1) and Evann Tan (No. 9) had crucial four-game victories that proved pivotal in the 5-4 final to start the day. Marco DiFilippo (No. 4), Teddy Eill (No. 4), Sam Freed (No. 7), and Akshat Agarwal (No. 9) all recorded team points during the afternoon at Bowdoin, with all but Eill reversing their tough defeats from the morning with thrilling five-game matches. Eill took his win at Bowdoin in four games.
Men's squash will wrap up its weekend in Maine on Sunday morning when the team travels to No. 21 Bates for a 10 a.m. match. Live video and live stats will be available to follow the Diplomats before they return to Lancaster in the afternoon.
